Graduates in both the classes of 2020 and 2021 at California State University, Turlock are getting the chance for special graduation ceremonies. That is just one of the items making news for the Stan State campus. Following are some notable events that have kept campus staff and students busy during May.


Class of 2020 Commencement

The long wait finally ended for Stan State’s Class of 2020 as graduates returned to campus one year later to celebrate the culmination of their hard work during the University’s first in-person Commencement ceremonies since 2019.


Kenni Friedman Receives Honorary Doctorate

Longtime community advocate and retired educator Kenni Friedman received an Honorary Doctorate of Human Letters during the Class of 2020 Commencement Ceremony held May 20 at Stan State.


Class of 2021 Commencement Ceremonies

Stanislaus State will hold on-campus Commencement ceremonies for the Class of 2021 from May 26 through 28. Ceremony times are 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. See the Class of 2021 Commencement ceremony schedule for additional details. All ceremonies will follow the guidance provided by the California Department of Public Health. The University must enforce this guidance. There will be no exceptions.

All Commencement attendees must: Be pre-registered; bring a picture ID for check-in and entrance; complete a self-assessment screening form before check-in; wear a face covering at all times; maintain social distancing.


Research, Scholarship And Creative Activity Faculty Award Presented

This year’s award recipients are Associate Professors Gina Cook, Sarah Chan and Xun Xu. The award is presented annually to faculty who exemplify scholarly achievement based on career productivity, the impact of their work on others, the importance of their accomplishments and their future agenda.


Klingelhoefer Earns Administrator Nomination

Coaxed out of retirement in 2019 to serve as interim associate vice president for Student Affairs, Andy Klingelhoefer was officially thanked by the University when he was nominated as its California State Student Association (CSSA) Administrator of the Year. Klingelhoefer, who plans to serve in the role until June, has spent 46 years working on behalf of students.
