Members of the community are being asked to voice their opinion and offer input on the direction of the Escalon Unified School District.

This week, a District planning meeting is scheduled, set for Thursday, March 28 beginning at 6 p.m., hosted in the Escalon High School theater on campus.

The meeting is open to all students, parents, and community members.

District officials said that, each year, the district is required to review and update their Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP). This year marks the start of a new LCAP cycle and the creation of a new three-year plan.

The goal of the Thursday night session is to get input from residents, parents and students as the district looks to develop that new plan.

Coming under review will be the school’s programs and operations, and how they relate to eight key priority areas defined by the state. Those priorities include, among others, parent involvement, student preparation and performance, school climate, and student engagement. In addition to the district-hosted meeting, each school hosts an LCAP Community Session as part of a scheduled School Site Council (SSC) meeting.

The LCAP was part of the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) legislation enacted in 2013 with the purpose of giving school districts greater local control. At the District planning meeting on March 28, officials will review three proposed goals. For each goal, facilitators will share districtwide progress, challenges, and supporting data. Attendees will be asked to provide input and feedback, with that information then utilized in the LCAP development process moving forward.
