From Velcro ax throwing to cornhole, Henna tattoos to commemorative Cougar paw painting, there was plenty to keep graduates busy at their Sober Grad Night party, Friday, May 30. The party stretched in to the early morning hours of Saturday, May 31 as the traditional hypnotist show wrapped up the party and the high school careers for Escalon seniors.
The Class of 2025 had well over 100 members attend the party, which kicked off at 9:30 p.m. and had activities in the cafeteria, outside on the tennis courts and in the area between the cafeteria and the gym. Music, food, a cornhole tournament and more were featured.
There was also a chance at a number of prizes and every graduate went home with something, said coordinator Krysten Lial. There were also the popular gaming tables, an Escape Room, video system and props for photos to capture the evening’s memories.
Graduate Kamille Thomas was among those enjoying the activities
“It’s very fun, it has very nice vibes,” Thomas said. “There’s a lot to do.”
She also said the final week of school brought some unique events.
“The rally was cool, the senior slide show was very cute, I loved that and graduation was obviously fun,” she added. “My best memories of high school, probably football games with my friends and dances, the dances were always fun.”
New graduate Adalyn Balison tried her hand at tossing the Velcro ax, with solid results, hitting the target almost every time.
“Kind of just having fun,” she said of her goal for the evening. “This one so far is pretty fun and it’s out of what I really expected.”
Later, she and classmate Steven Essler hit the photo booth and took advantage of a number of props, including a Viking helmet and a sea captain’s hat, to pose for photos.
The winning cornhole team of Preston Berhorst and Dominic Arauza each walked away with a $50 prize from that competition and the Grand Prize winners of $500 each were Kali Castellanos and Jake Sawyer. Other major prizes awarded by random draw during the evening included a PS5, a laptop and an Apple Watch, in addition to a 32-inch Smart TV, two Apple Air Pod Pro2, Meta Quest, a mini fridge, a Bluetooth speaker and five ‘Golden Ticket’ $200 cash prizes.
Altogether, students had a chance at winning a share of $2,000 in cash in the drawings and over $2,615 in merchandise prizes.
