San Joaquin County officials have awarded a contract to Design Workshop, a Denver-based firm, to develop future plans for Parks and Recreation.

This past November, the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors approved a Design Workshop contract award to create a Ten-Year Parks and Recreation Master Plan, which will chart the future course for Parks and Recreation including Micke Grove Zoo.

“This master plan will establish a shared vision and strategic roadmap for the future of parks and recreation in San Joaquin County. Grounded in equity, access and community engagement, it will guide how we prioritize and invest in parks and recreation services to meet the evolving needs of residents for years to come,” stated Parks Administrator, Ashika Lal.

The Ten-Year Master Plan is set to be comprehensive, addressing a wide range of interconnected topics to provide guidance on meeting future recreational, environmental and maintenance needs. It will also establish priorities for facility improvements, future park development and parkland acquisitions.

“This parks plan represents a once-in-a-decade opportunity to establish a shared vision for stewardship and responsible management; one that transparently prioritizes improvements, expands offerings and resources to meet demand and recognizes change with adaptation strategies,” said Anna Laybourn, Principal-In-Charge at Design Workshop.

Based in Denver, Colorado with offices in Texas, Nevada, North Carolina and California, Design Workshop boasts over 50 years of experience in creating park system master plans throughout the western United States, including county specific projects in Placer, Mariposa, Santa Barbara and Nevada counties in California. Design Workshop is joined by consultant partners Zoo Solutions (zoo operations and management specialists), Citygate Associates (public facilities maintenance and funding strategists) and Bureau Veritas (facilities condition assessment).
