A couple of different fundraisers are planned for this weekend, one put on by a local service club and the other in memory of two local men who have passed away.

Escalon Sunrise Rotary Club is hosting its Oktoberfest gala, set for Saturday, Oct. 5 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Escalon Community Center.

All are invited to join in for an afternoon of fun, food and drink, with sausage sampling, microbrews, wine tasting, a silent auction, various prize drawings plus music and dancing to enjoy.

Pre-sale tickets are $25 and tickets available the day of the event at the door will be $30. Tickets are available at Bank of the West, Country View Manor, Kiernan Village, or Ray Morgan Co.

Proceeds from the event will fund the various local, national and International projects sponsored through the Escalon Sunrise Rotary.

Meanwhile, also scheduled for Saturday is the annual Grant and Jason Arnold Scholarship Dinner/Dance, with the Oct. 5 gathering planned at the Escalon Sportsman’s Club on River Road.

This is the seventh annual dinner, dance and auction in honor of the late Grant and Jason Arnold. Each was described as a great athlete, along with being “loving fathers and good men.” Over the past six years of the event, the dinner-dance has raised several thousand dollars and resulted in presentation of $1,000 scholarships to a total of 56 local high school students.

Grant Arnold passed away in 2005 and was an outstanding athlete who played football and also wrestled. He graduated from Davis High School in 1972 and continued his wrestling career at MJC and Cal Poly. He married and had three sons, Jason, Bryan and Grant, and all followed in their father’s footsteps as outstanding athletes. Jason Arnold was a wrestler, football and baseball player, excelling in all three but with baseball being his favorite. He graduated from Escalon High School in 1991 and has three daughters, Alexandra, Madison and Hunter.

Tickets for the event are $50 per person with cocktails from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., dinner from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and dancing to the sounds of “Copper Holdings Company Band” until midnight. For tickets call Bryan Arnold at 603-0205. There will also be a raffle, silent auction and live auction and the $50 ticket includes an open bar.
