Weather permitting, Escalon will celebrate the holidays with its annual Christmas on Main on Saturday, Dec. 13.

It’s just one of the holiday gatherings set for the local area in the days to come.

First up, on Friday, Dec. 12, Farmington Fire Department will host its annual Community Christmas, with doors to the firehouse open at 6:30 p.m. and residents invited in to enjoy holiday music, homemade cookies and sweets, hot cider, punch, coffee and hot chocolate. Santa Claus arrives via fire truck at 7 p.m. – regardless of rainy weather and/or fog – and takes time to pose for photos with the children, as well as hear their Christmas wishes and provide them with a small gift and a candy cane. Several local businesses join with the fire department each year to host the special community event in Farmington.

Saturday, Dec. 13 will see Santa Claus making a quick stop at Bank of the West in Escalon from 10 a.m. to noon, available for pictures with children. Parents can bring their camera to take the photo at the bank branch, 1633 First St.

Later, the city’s downtown celebration will kick off, with a variety of food and vendor booths, entertainment, the holiday light parade at 5:30 p.m., the making of s’mores at the fire pits in the Main Street Park and visits with Santa Claus.

Vendors slated to participate include some local boutiques and shops, non-profit groups with food and beverages, crafts for kids, face painting and more. There will be music and dance performances on the stage, leading up to the Parade of Lights at 5:30 p.m.

The annual Christmas on Main is hosted by the Escalon Chamber of Commerce.

Rain date for the festivities is Sunday, Dec. 14.

You can also get into the holiday spirit by visiting Lorina’s Edible Garden this week for the annual Christmas in Grandpa’s Barn. The barn is at 17693 Enterprise Road, Escalon, and this is the final week for the festivities there, with events ranging from classes, tractor wagon rides, photos with Santa, holiday vendors for shopping and a special Saturday ‘Paint the Ponies’ activity to help support Healing Arenas equine therapy ranch. Lorina’s is open Wednesday through Friday from 1 p.m. to 6 pm.; Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 pm.; and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.

The holiday vendors will be there Friday through Sunday and the special Holidays with Herbs class will be hosted Friday at 6 p.m.

Good Day Sacramento is also scheduled to be at the barn for an early morning visit on Friday, Dec. 12.

Current forecasts are for rainy and windy weather starting during the day on Wednesday and continuing through Friday, but with sunshine returning for the weekend.
