A 19-year-old Merced man died following a solo vehicle accident on River Road on Monday afternoon; the Stockton CHP responding to the report of a traffic collision about 4 p.m.

As of press time Tuesday, the driver’s name was not available from authorities.

According to the CHP report, officers were called to the scene on Monday, Feb. 5, with a report of the crash on River Road, east of Sexton Road in Escalon.

The initial investigation determined a white 1998 Ford Expedition SUV was driving westbound on River Road, east of Sexton Road. The driver made an abrupt turning movement to the right, and drove off the north edge of the roadway. The Ford became airborne, flipping and rolling multiple times across a vacant dirt field.

The driver was wearing his seatbelt, said the CHP report, but the collision was so violent that the teen was ejected from the vehicle, and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this collision, the CHP report said. The toxicology report is pending.
