Annual Poker Tournament

Wings of Hope will host its fifth annual Poker Tournament fundraiser on Saturday, April 30. Check-in begins at 6:30 p.m. with the tournament starting at 7 p.m., at the Santini Barn on Sexton Road. Cost is a $40 donation, which supports the Wings of Hope team at Relay for Life of Escalon. There will be a no host bar available and drawings for a variety of prizes as well as the tournament. Rail Ride For Relay

Ride on a vintage train on the original Transcontinental Route on the Niles Canyon Railway to support Relay For Life. This seventh annual ‘Ride the Rails for Relay’ trip is set for Saturday, April 23 with departures at 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. from Sunol Depot, 6 Kilkare Road, Sunol. Tickets are $25 for adults, $15 for children 2 to 12, under 2 ride free. Make checks payable to the American Cancer Society. Cash is also accepted at the depot and all proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society. Tickets are valid only on Saturday, April 23 for the time shown on the ticket. Bunco, Derby Events

The Cancerous Suckitous Team is planning its Kentucky Derby Party that will be hosted at the Escalon Golf Course on Saturday, May 7. Also, the Saron Lutheran Church team will host a Bunco party on Saturday, May 13 at 6:30 p.m. at a cost of $20 to play. More details to follow soon on both these fundraisers.

 

Committee, Captain Meetings

Scheduled for June 25 and 26 at Escalon High School, the 2016 Relay For Life of Escalon is currently in the planning stages. With 12 teams and 92 participants signed up so far, the Relay For Life of Escalon has passed the $7,500 mark in fundraising. Monthly meetings are open to all those interested. Meetings will be at the Escalon Ambulance building on Ullrey Avenue and are the second Wednesday of the month unless otherwise specified. The next meetings are set for Wednesdays, April 13 and May 11, with committee meetings starting at 5:45 p.m. and the team captain/participant meetings at 6:30 p.m.

Plan to join in the ‘Paint the Town Purple’ event, tying purple ribbons around trees, sign posts and more to promote the 24-hour Relay event. Participants in the Relay For Life of Escalon 2016 will meet to ‘Paint the Town Purple’ on the morning of June 11, gathering at the city’s Main Street Park for the 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. event.
