Proposals Sought For RTD Transit Center Mural Project

San Joaquin Regional Transit District (RTD) is seeking proposals from artists for a large scale (ten feet by eight feet) outdoor mural to be installed on an existing stucco wall on the north side of the Downtown Transit Center (DTC) at 421 E. Weber Ave., Stockton. The mural should include and/or invoke the following:

• RTD Mission: To provide a safe, reliable, and efficient transportation system for the region.

• RTD Core Values: Customer service, safety, a positive work environment, and sustainability.

• RTD Vision: To be the transportation service of choice for the residents we serve.

The piece must be durable and suitable for outdoor display with the ability to withstand the elements of the local climate as well as interaction with the public. In addition to artwork samples, artist proposals should include all proposed costs, such as materials, transportation to and from the site, installation, artist’s fees, etc. Proposals should also include an artist bio, sketch of the proposed mural, and two references.

The maximum budget for this project is $5,000. This opportunity is open to all artists or artist teams over the age of 18. The selected artist will be required to enter into a contract with RTD under the applicable terms and conditions.

All proposals must be submitted electronically by 5 p.m. on Friday, June 1. All submissions can be emailed to eoestreicher@sjRTD.com. Once all proposals have been received, interviews will be conducted and a final selection will be made by Friday, June 29. Mural installation date will be decided based on artist’s availability. All materials become the property of RTD upon transmittal. This project is made possible in part by grant funding from the Stockton Arts Commission.
