Meet The Candidates
Vote1

Three candidates vying for two open positions on the Escalon City Council will meet in a forum tonight, Wednesday, Oct. 5, at the Escalon Library on Second Street.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. with the forum, sponsored by the Escalon Chamber of Commerce, starting at 7 p.m.

Candidates in the November election include incumbent councilman Jeff Laugero, former councilman and past Escalon Police Chief Walt Murken, and superintendent/businessman Will Smith, running for the council for the first time.

The terms of Laugero and Mayor Gary Haskin are expiring; Haskin chose not to run for re-election, after serving 20 years on the council.

There are no ‘districts’ in Escalon, candidates run at large and the top two vote getters on Nov. 8 will win the four-year terms.

Chamber officials sought questions from the public for the event. Each candidate will be given two minutes for an opening statement at the start of the forum and one minute for a closing statement at the end. Questions will also be taken from the audience as time permits and must be to the candidates at large, not to an individual candidate. Each candidate will have one minute to respond to each question.

All in the community are encouraged to attend the forum and learn more about the candidates.
