To help area families in need have a happier holiday season, the Escalon Consolidated Fire Protection District is once again hosting a Christmas Toy Drive, with 18 different drop off locations available. Distribution of the collected items will be done just before Christmas.

Sign up for the Escalon Fire Christmas Toy Drive will be on Saturday, Dec. 10 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

“This will be two hours only, one day only,” Battalion Chief Terry Pinheiro said of the sign-ups, which will be done at the firehouse on Coley Avenue.

“Due to the demand for toys, we can only accommodate those who reside within the boundaries of the Escalon fire district,” added Pinheiro.

The giveaway itself will be on Friday, Dec. 23 at 10 a.m. at the fire station at 1749 Coley.

Pinheiro said the toy boxes for collecting the new, unwrapped toys were delivered to a number of locations around the community on Monday, Nov. 28. Toys, books, puzzles, stationery items and more are sought for all ages, from infants to mid-teens.

The collection boxes will be out until Thursday, Dec. 22.

Locations, along with the Escalon Fire Department, include: Escalon City Hall, Dent Elementary, El Portal Middle School, Escalon Premier Brands, MarVal Main Street Market and Pizza Plus. Also, D’Boni’s Pizza, Vineyard Pharmacy, Oak Valley Bank, Bank of the West, MT Pockets, BBVA Bank, Dollar General, The Learning Tree, Escalon American Legion Hall, Eckert Cold Storage and Big Boy Market.
