The Escalon Lions Club is hosting its traditional Corned Beef and Cabbage St. Patrick’s Day Dinner at the Escalon Community Center on Thursday, March 15. Doors open at 6 p.m. for a no host bar and social hour, with dinner served at 7 p.m. Again this year, there will be a ‘drive thru’ for residents who want to pick up their dinner to go. The drive thru meals will be available starting at 6 p.m. Cost for the dinner is $20 per person. Tickets will be available at the door or purchase them prior to the event from Lions Club members, at D’Boni’s Pizza, MarVal Main Street Market and Escalon Body and Frame.

The Thursday morning preschool storytime at the Escalon Library will be hosted on March 15 and 29, with no storytime on March 22. Special programs this month include Leprechaun Mayhem for the March 15 storytime and a Books and Bunnies Easter Egg Hunt on March 29. Makerspace, designed for older kids, runs Thursdays at 4 p.m. and also will be offered March 15 and 29 with no gathering on March 22. A special activity for the Makerspace group will be Bean Bamboozled and an egg hunt, for teens and tweens, on March 29.

Love Escalon 2018 is being planned for Saturday, April 21, beginning at 8 a.m., with a kickoff rally at the Escalon Youth Center. Project sign-ups will be available soon at www.loveescalon.com. For more information, email Brittany Doornenbal at loveescalon@att.net.

St. Patrick’s Altar Society has scheduled a fundraising pancake breakfast for Palm Sunday, March 25 at St. Patrick’s Church Hall, 19399 E. Highway 120, at the corner of the highway and Carrolton Road. Breakfast will be served from 7 a.m. to noon and prices are $7 for adults, $4 for children ages two to 12. Proceeds go directly to purchasing Altar Flowers and Communion Bread. The fundraiser also helps the Altar Society pay for Christmas and Easter decorations.

Make plans to attend a special afternoon of music, featuring the original music of international songwriters, Alex Kash and Bethany Dalton-Kash. The concert is scheduled for Thursday, March 15 at 1 p.m. at Columbia Nursery, 22004 Parrots Ferry Road in Sonora. Tickets, available at the door, are $20. The concert will be outdoors or indoors, depending on weather.

Women’s History Month events have been scheduled through San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton. “The Ito Sisters – An American Story,” a documentary about the experience of Japanese Americans, will be shown at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 17 at the Tillie Lewis Theatre. The film is presented by the Stockton Japanese American Citizens League and by Delta’s Asian Pacific Islander American Staff Association. The film “Liberated,” will be shown at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 27 at the college’s West Forum. The film tells the story of a young man who fled Oaxaca, Mexico for the United States 20 years ago, returning later as a transgender woman and healthcare advocate. The Delta Pride Center will welcome Alejandra, who is portrayed in the film, and film director Brenda Avila-Hanna for a question and answer session.

Annual Irish Days Pancake Breakfast is scheduled on St Patrick’s Day, Saturday, March 17 from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. at First Congregational, United Church of Christ on the corner of Algiers and Church streets in Murphys. The menu includes pancakes, ham, scrambled eggs, juice, tea and coffee. Tickets will be sold at the door; $8 for adults and $5 for children 10 and under. Proceeds will go to various local and global charities supported by the Church.
