Lacy J. Dalton Performs At Black Oak
Dalton

Lacy J. Dalton has been playing music for many years and has shared the stage with some country legends like Hank Williams, Jr., Willie Nelson, George Jones, Glen Campbell, Merle Haggard and Charlie Daniels. She will bring her blend of Americana, Bluegrass, country and what she calls Extra Terrestrial music to the Willow Creek Lounge at Black Oak Casino on Friday, Dec. 20 at 9 p.m.

“I like to say it is out of this world,” added Dalton about her music. “I am an independent artist. Come and have a look. There will be all kinds of music in the show. We are going to hit the high spots and the hits on the radio like “16th Avenue,” “Black Coffee,” “Takin’ It Easy,” “Everybody Makes Mistakes,” and many of those.”

The new music she released this past January is not the traditional country sound and “Scarecrow” is her signature song that also has a video that has been released.

“It (Scarecrow) is music that is inside me and that song was a song about a relationship that I had,” she explained. “It is about betrayal that is often done by people we love and trust the most.”

After spending some time playing in a psychedelic rock and roll band back in the day she returned to her love of country music by the outlaws like Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson. She was signed to CBS Records after releasing a song she wrote called “Crazy Blue Eyes” which was her hit single and what she called an outlaw country song.

“It was a very different stance for a woman in country music,” stated Dalton about her music. “I was fortunate because I had this outlaw persona and this big voice. There weren’t too many women that were opening the shows for the outlaws like Willie and Merle and Charlie Daniels.”

Dalton received a gold record for touring with Hank Williams Jr. and a gold record from Willie for her participation in his album Half Nelson Duet CD that went platinum. She was inducted into the North American Country Music Association International Hall of Fame in March 2017. She was Awarded Best New Female Artist by the Academy of Country Music in 1979 and had numerous Grammy nominations and three prestigious, back to back (1979, 1980, 1981) Bay Area Music Awards for Best Country-Folk Recordings. She appeared on shows with guests like Neil Young, The Grateful Dead, Grace Slick and the Jefferson Airplane.

“I was the only woman on his album,” said Dalton of sharing the studio with Nelson. “It was a fabulous project. There were a lot of amazing people on that album with Willie.”

She has played for a variety of audiences and has received standing ovations for her music. The show on Friday will be filled with some old songs, new songs, and songs from the great American song book of country songs from the past. Towards the end of the show Dalton explained that guests will be treated to some classic Christmas music and maybe a little bit of some unique Christmas songs like Carl the Christmas Dog.

“The show is free,” expressed Dalton. “It is a variety. I have played for many, many years. I learned to play to a very broad spectrum of musical taste. It is a little bouquet that we offer at Black Oak. Come on out and see it. I know we are going to have a great time.”
