If you’re looking for dinner and/or dessert, Escalon is the place to be on Saturday, Aug. 19.

Members of the Escalon American Legion Post 263 will host their third Saturday of the month dinner night at the Post rooms on Second Street, starting at 5 p.m. The dinner menu, officials said, will be a fish fry, with several side dishes and desserts offered as well.

The Post puts on a number of dinners throughout the year on the third Saturday, as a way to thank community members for their ongoing support of the Post and its activities.

There is no charge to attend, though donations are accepted to help offset the costs for the meal.

There will also be another community option on Saturday, focusing strictly on dessert.

“If you’ve enjoyed about as much as you can stand of soaring August temperatures, there’s an excellent opportunity coming up to beat the heat and share some great fellowship,” said Escalon United Methodist Church Pastor Peggy Bosch.

The church will be hosting its annual community Ice Cream Social on Aug. 19 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the air-conditioned social hall.

The church is at 2000 Jackson Ave., corner of Highway 120 and Brayton.

There will be a variety of homemade ice creams and other sweet treat desserts, free of charge, but a basket will be available for those that would like to make a donation.

The Ice Cream Social is an Escalon UMC tradition stretching back over 50 years, offered to the community by the church as a way to celebrate the end of summer and the start of the new school year.

“We’re excited to welcome our neighbors for some tasty delights and fun fellowship,” said Klint Turner, who has overseen the most recent years of the event, following in the footsteps of his grandmother, Annabelle Martin.

All are welcome to attend, bring your family and friends.
