Holiday Prompts Delay Of City Council Session
new city

The regular Escalon City Council meeting of Monday, Sept. 2 has been postponed by a day due to the Labor Day holiday on Monday.

Escalon City offices will be closed on Monday so the session of the council will instead be held on Tuesday, Sept. 3 in the council chambers at 2060 McHenry Ave.

Schools are closed on Monday, in addition to banks, the Post Office, courts, along with local, state and federal government offices. Other businesses have the option of closing.

Tuesday’s meeting of the council has one major item on the agenda, a public hearing to gather comments regarding funding for the skate park and parking improvements at the Escalon Community Center.

The hearing is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Council members want to hear from the public and then will consider whether to provide funds to the Escalon Parks Foundation for the skate park, as well as looking to finance the rehabilitation of the Community Center parking lot and the creation of an overflow parking lot at the site. Some current Parks and Recreation Impact Funds could also potentially be utilized for the projects and the council members will consider that option as well, along with tapping in to the General Fund to get the projects in motion.

Anyone interested in the item is encouraged to attend and provide input, either for or against the proposal, at the Sept. 3 session.

City Manager Tammy Alcantor said, as of press time, that was the only major item on the agenda for the meeting. Additional information about the proposal is available by contacting City Hall at 209-691-7421.
