Four E-Waste Events Offered Through City
CITY esc

The first of four scheduled E-waste disposal events for Escalon residents is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 21.

Hours for the event are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; the disposal will be hosted in the parking lot of the Escalon Community Center at 1055 Escalon Ave.

Two of the scheduled 2023 disposal events will be on Saturdays and two on Sundays. In addition to the Jan. 21 date, the next Saturday disposal date is set for July 15. Sunday E-waste collections are scheduled on April 9 and Oct. 8.

As a reminder, residents can bring a variety of E-waste to the Community Center and follow the directional signs; crews will offload the E-waste for you. Acceptable E-waste items include televisions, computer monitors, computer processing units, radios/stereos, microwaves, printers, telephones, fax machines, cell phones, and answering machines. Also, certain batteries are accepted, no car batteries; and fluorescent lights can also be disposed of safely at the event.

The city no longer has a grant to put on tire recycling to go along with the E-waste collection, but residents can still recycle their passenger tires for free at a number of available San Joaquin County dump sites. Participating facilities are Foothill Sanitary Landfill in Linden; Lovelace Materials Recovery Facility and Transfer Station in Manteca; and North County Recycling Center and Sanitary Landfill in Lodi. More information is available by contacting the San Joaquin County Solid Waste program at 209-468-3066.

City officials have issued a final reminder that business licenses for local business owners must be renewed by Tuesday, Jan. 31 in order to avoid penalties. Call 209-691-7430 for additional information.

The city is also currently accepting applications from area businesses to advertise on the electronic city sign, for a fee, with non-profit groups able to advertise events for free. One-day birthday or special message opportunities are available for a cost of $30. Contact Jenny at City Hall, 209-691-7442, or visit www.cityofescalon.org for more information.
