Polling places and ballot drop-off locations are set for the Tuesday, Nov. 8 Election Day for the midterm elections.
In Escalon, the main race on the ballot is that for available Escalon City Council seats with nine candidates in the running.
There are three four-year terms available along with one two-year post on the council.
Seeking the four-year terms are incumbents Ed Alves and Peter Krumeich, current councilmember and veterinarian/businessman Andrew Hagan, educator and business owner Malinda Walker and businessman Jeremy Engle. Seeking the two-year term are retired hazardous materials specialist Kurt Danziger, homemaker Sherry Hill, parent/project manager Shawn Strohman and community volunteer Elsa Sandoval.
Ballots can be dropped off on or before Election Day at Escalon City Hall, 2060 McHenry Ave., Escalon, open Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and at Circle K in Farmington, 4469 S. Escalon-Bellota Road, open 24 hours, seven days a week.
Polling places around the area include Escalon First Baptist Church, 1511 Catherine Way (Precinct 64501); Van Allen Elementary School, 21051 Highway 120 (Precinct 94409); the Achterberg garage, 30137 Orange Ave. (Precinct 94513); Farmington Elementary School, 25233 East Highway 4, Farmington (Precinct 91421) and Farmington United Methodist Church, 25626 Elm St., Farmington (Precinct 91404).
Along with the council race, the ballot includes several statewide races of local interest.
Democrat Alex Padilla and Republican Mark P. Meuser are seeking to fill an unexpired term for State Senator; while incumbent Congressman, Democrat Josh Harder, is seeking the 9th District Congressional seat in a race against Republican Tom Patti.
In the District 13 Congressional race, Democrat Adam Gray faces off against Republican John Duarte.
For the State Assembly, District 9, incumbent Republican Heath Flora faces Democrat Mushtaq Ahmed Tahirkheli and in the State Assembly, District 13 race, Democrats Carlos Villapudua and Veronica Andrea Vargas are both seeking the post.
For the South San Joaquin Irrigation District Division 1 seat, incumbent Robert ‘Bob’ Holmes is facing challenger, David L. Roos, a farmer.
Ballots can be returned by mail – postmarked by Election Day – or dropped off at the drop box locations. Polls will be open on Election Day from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
