There was a public hearing held before the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors on May 24th. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the summary of the Focus Group meetings and the Community Workshops pertaining to the Alternatives Report. This was for the Board to accept the summary for reviewing the information to assist them in the determination of a preferred alternative for growth and development for San Joaquin County. One option that received the most public attention was for Farmington to grow in population from 300 to more than 5000. Several Farmington residents spoke before the board about the growth in Farmington. A meeting is scheduled before the Planning commission on July 7th. Notices will be sent out as to the date and time.

Another 'Old Farmington Story' ... One of the first cemeteries was located on land owned by M.J. Drais on Little John Creek about a mile west of Farmington. The Old Immigrant Trail ran along John Creek and may have been a way to get to the cemetery. The fence around the cemetery was not kept up and soon disappeared; and when the land was leveled in later years, the graves were run over and stones knocked down and broken. Leland Drais thought this side should be kept so he planted a row of evergreen trees to protect the grave site from being further destroyed. In 1889 Nathaniel Harrold gave four acres of land for a cemetery located a quarter mile south of Farmington near John Creek. The first person buried there was John Rogers who died in 1889. Some of the residents of Farmington moved their loved ones from other cemeteries to this new spot, so dates on stones go back further than 1889. The cemetery is now known as Farmington Memorial Cemetery. The Cemeteries were all abloom this Memorial Weekend, for loves ones gone. Flags marked graves of our Veterans who have bravely served our country.
