Farmington Students Enjoy More Than Book Learning

At Escalon Unified School District, we strive to educate the whole student. Yes, reading, writing, and math are still a primary focus in our classrooms, but we like to look at other positive influences we can have in our student’s lives. At Farmington Elementary, we care for our students by providing them a vigorous education, loving and supportive staff, and character building activities.

Being a school of 105 students, the students have the unique opportunity of having an entire staff that knows each of their names. Every teacher, custodian, food services provider, and support staff knows and truly loves each and every one of our students. The Escalon Unified School District motto, We Care, is taken to a new level at Farmington School.

One of the terrific educational opportunities our students have is the Tops Science Program. The students are always excited about the fun science lessons that Mr. Dave Mantooth, our Tops Scientist, provides. His hands on activities give our students some real world experiences that make science fun and relevant.

This year we have been lucky to add art instruction to our enrichment activities. The talented Sonya Huff has begun to teach our students about art, art history, and the various forms of art. Our art program was made possible from community donations to our school.

When we say we educate the whole child we also look at their social needs. At Farmington, the staff has adopted character traits that they feel students need to embrace. Each month a character trait is taught, explored, and activities are completed in the classroom. At the end of the month a student is chosen and recognized that best demonstrated that character trait. Those students from each classroom are then invited to a principal’s pizza lunch with me.

Farmington has had the opportunity to have two amazing assemblies that focus on character. First, The NED Show came to our school on Dec. 15, 2017. The kids enjoyed the comic like character and yo-yo tricks! Most importantly, a great message stuck with them; never give up, encourage others, and do your best!

On Jan. 26, 2018, the students of Farmington had motivational speaker, Kevin Bracy, come and talk with them. “Today is a perfect day to be great!” This was just one of the many positive affirmations students were making when Kevin Bracy motivated students with his fun, energetic, and positive message. Kevin brought his lively music, chants, and activities which the students identified with and enjoyed. Known as Coach Kevin, or Coach Greatness, his message is all about reaching out to one person each day. Each person can show kindness to themselves and others to make a difference in the world.

At Farmington School, we care about making an impact on our student’s lives in and outside of the classroom! Each student is given the opportunity to thrive and prosper in all aspects of life!
