San Joaquin County Office of Education celebrated the grand opening of its full National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Gym on Tuesday, April 2.

The late morning ceremony was hosted at the new gym, 2720 Transworld Drive, Stockton.

This state-of-the-art facility holds three basketball courts, volleyball courts, and two wrestling mats made of Resilite. In addition, it will be a high performance, extremely resilient synthetic floor combining a high level of recycled content, extremely low VOC emissions, and the aesthetics of a hardwood gym floor. Education officials said that this is the first of its kind gym floor within San Joaquin County and will be providing the community with a place for tournaments, competitions, and much more.

The program and facility were made possible by the San Joaquin County Office of Education’s collaboration with Connor Flooring, Doctors Hospital of Manteca, Mountain Mike’s Pizza, River Islands at Lathrop, and Van Groningen & Sons, Inc.

The public and community are welcome to come check it out for themselves, just stop by the location in Stockton.

Among the students expected to utilize the facility are those at Excel Academy, a Collegiate Sports and Health Science Preparatory High School offered in cooperation with the county Office of Education. The academy is dedicated to providing academic and athletic programs that meet the individual needs of committed student athletes as they prepare themselves for athletic competition, college, and life.
