Riverbank High School’s fall Homecoming 2014 began on Monday, Oct. 6 and will continue through Friday, Oct. 10 with several festivities and extensive school spirit activities slated throughout the week on campus.

Adam Erro, Activities Director and English teacher, organized a fashion show during lunch along with the leadership students to give students an example of their clothing options and colors for this week’s dress up days, and they announced the King and Queen candidates on Friday, Oct. 3.

The students had speakers out and music playing to start off the lunch festivities in the quad on Friday to jumpstart the Homecoming Week fun.

The first themed dress day was on Monday, Oct. 6 where students were asked to wear cowboy/girl attire or to sport brown and blue colors. Jorge Yepez and Kayla Savory started off the fashion show wearing the Western-themed attire with boots, a hat and plaid shirts.

During lunch on Monday students enjoyed a sled race and hat toss.

On Tuesday, Oct. 7 students had the opportunity to dress like a hippie and get as colorful as the rainbow and attend a hula hoop contest at lunch.

Today, Wednesday, if you spot red and white colors on campus or see students wearing sombreros it will be due to the Cinco de Mayo-themed dress day for Homecoming. Students Joseph Crosby and Miranda Alcantar showed their playfulness during the Friday fashion show doing twirls with a lot of smiles and laughter. There will be a piñata obstacle course and fiery plans for a jalapeno eating contest for the lunchtime activity today.

Safari explorer-themed dress with animal print or green and tan colors are acceptable on Thursday, Oct. 9 and drink roulette will be all the rage at lunch.

The Powder Puff game will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday and during halftime the Homecoming King will be crowned.

Homecoming week will end on Friday, Oct. 10 where students are asked to wear the school colors of maroon and silver to support their Bruin family.

Ylii Lopez, Christina Linarez, and the Bruin Bear mascots wrapped up the fashion show sporting the school colors and showing off some dance moves.

The lunch time activity on Friday will include tug o’ war and a tricycle race along with a rally after 2 p.m.

The show ended with the announcement of the Homecoming King and Queen candidates, Natalia Villapudua, Christina Linarez, Kenia Medina, Sabrina Garcia and Yvonne Vigil for Queen, Oscar Jimenez, Chris Jennings, Eduardo Estrada, Cruz Garnica, and Dingyi Zhang for King.

The community is invited to participate in the Bruin spirit and attend the Homecoming parade at 3:15 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Santa Fe Street and Seventh Street on Friday.

The Homecoming game is also on Friday, Oct. 10 at 7:30 p.m. where the Bruins will battle Trans-Valley League foe Modesto Christian in the regular season opener. During halftime of the varsity game the Homecoming Queen will be crowned, floats will be driven around the field, and the class float winner will be announced.

Students that participate in the school’s themed dress days will receive spirit day points.
