Downtown Rally Set Saturday In Escalon
ESC CITY

Organizers of a rally scheduled in Escalon for Saturday, June 6 have said they are planning on a peaceful protest beginning at 10 a.m.

Scheduled to begin at the city’s Main Street Park area, there are expected to be some speakers and then a march in the downtown area.

City Manager Tammy Alcantor said the rally organizers reached out to the city with some event details and they were planning on finalizing the march route on Friday.

“The time frame is 10 a.m. to noon,” said Alcantor.

Several cities around the Central Valley have been hosting marches and rallies – as have locations across the country – in response to the in-custody death of George Floyd in Minneapolis on May 25. Charges have been brought against four police officers in connection with his death.

Alcantor added that businesses in the community have been notified about Saturday’s rally and march.

“We’re not anticipating any problems,” the city manager said.

There is also a scheduled rally in nearby Ripon on Saturday as well, and possibly one in neighboring Oakdale, which had one earlier in the week, on Wednesday, June 3.
