Police Investigate Drive By Shooting

It was only a pellet gun, loaded with air soft pellets, but one teen was taken to the hospital for treatment when he was struck by a pellet in a ‘drive by’ shooting on Thursday afternoon, Sept. 25.

Escalon Police said the report came in about 12:40 p.m., after shots were fired out of a vehicle in the area of Highway 120 and Yosemite. One teen was hit just below the eye, the other in the face, both suffering injuries from the pellet gun shots.

A 15-year-old was taken by ambulance to a Modesto hospital for treatment, a 16-year-old was treated at the scene and released. Both teens were male and reported seeing a tan or gray four-door car, possibly a Chrysler, in the area when the shots were fired. Three older teens were reported to be in the vehicle and police are asking anyone that may have seen anything to contact them at 838-7093. Sgt. Milt Medeiros is handling the investigation.

The victims said the passenger in the rear seat of the vehicle did the shooting. Police said it appeared to be a random act, with no specific reason for the shooting and no specific targets.
