County Museum Extends Closure Through April 1

The Board of Directors of the San Joaquin County Historical Society & Museum (SJCHSM) has announced that the Museum will stay closed at least through April 1, 2021.

“We cannot, in good faith open our 18-acre campus to the public at this time. We care deeply about the wellbeing of our visitors, volunteers, and staff, and feel it is premature to re-open. We will re-address this decision in early Spring and safely welcome guests and staff back to our beloved Museum when appropriate,” stated Kristina Swanson, Executive Director and CEO.

The annual Festival of Trees, a popular holiday tradition for many families in San Joaquin County will not be held this year, though officials are expecting it to be held in 2021.

During this time of closure, yet still working virtual, the SJHS&M staff is hard at work on internal planning, digital resources, research and collections inventory. A grand re-opening will be held when the Museum opens once again.

The San Joaquin County Historical Society and Museum reveals the rich heritage of the region, from the Miwok and Yokuts Indians through Charles Weber (founder of Stockton and first farmer in the area) and the development of modern agriculture. The Museum has eight exhibit buildings and four historic buildings. It is home to the very popular Valley Days, an award-winning living history educational program for third, fourth and fifth graders. The 18-acre grounds include the Sunshine Trail living exhibition of native habitats and the Delta Water Path.
