At the inaugural San Joaquin County State of Education event on Wednesday, May 7, the community came together in celebration of public education in the county, which is home to 14 school districts serving more than 154,000 students. Organized by the San Joaquin County Office of Education (SJCOE) in partnership with county school districts, the event highlighted initiatives in local schools focused on early literacy, mental health, career preparation, and student connection. Community leaders, elected officials, and representatives from local agencies joined with the county’s educational community for the event hosted at Weston Ranch High School in the Manteca Unified School District.

“Educators in our county are not just doing the work to get to know the whole student; we are building the programs, lessons, and relationships to serve students and help them find success in school and in life,” said San Joaquin County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Troy Brown. “Today, we are recognizing the innovation, passion, and dedication found across all 14 school districts and San Joaquin County Office of Education programs.”

Themed “Education for All,” the program featured recent efforts by the SJCOE and local school districts across four focus areas: Career Technical Education (CTE), Early Literacy, Mental Health Supports, and Every Student Has a Story.

The State of Education began with a district showcase, where attendees engaged directly with students and staff to learn about the programs offered in local school districts and county programs. Following the showcase was a formal program led by Dr. Brown that featured video spotlights highlighting efforts in each focus area and a student performance.

Accompanying the event was a special edition of the SJCOE Outlook Magazine, which highlights district efforts within each of the four focus areas. The magazine is available online at https://issuu.com/wearesjcoe/docs/outlook_78.4_state_of_education.
