State’s Latino Film Series Features Freedom Writers

The next film in the Latino Film Series at The State Theatre in Modesto is the Richard LaGravenese film Freedom Writers. A true story that’s worth telling, the film follows a dedicated California teacher as she tries to unify her disadvantaged, racially divided students. Hilary Swank and Patrick Dempsey star in this engaging inspirational drama set during the time of the 1992 race riots in Los Angeles.

The movie is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 5 at 1 p.m. and The State is at 1307 J St., downtown Modesto.
