The San Joaquin-Stanislaus CattleWomen selected Delores Henriques as the 2016 Cowbelle of the Year during their Sept. 20 meeting. She was given an engraved cowbell and a sterling silver pendant to celebrate her hard work. The award singles out an outstanding member who dedicates a significant amount of time and effort to promote the beef industry.

Henriques has been a member of the San Joaquin-Stanislaus CattleWomen for almost 20 years. She lives on a cow/calf ranch on the west side of Tracy. Together with her husband they have had a cut and wrap butcher business for more than 40 years and now are semi-retired. Henriques retired in 2010 from the Jefferson School District as a teacher’s aide. Since her retirement, she has dedicated more volunteer hours to the organization doing all sorts of activities.

She has been chairman of hospitality, cheers and the scrapbook committees. She has hosted meetings at her home and cooked and served at many of the unit’s fundraisers over the 20 years. She has sewn fabric hamburgers for classroom demonstrations, constructed the unit’s scrapbooks and visited many schools with all kinds of animals.

“I am so honored and surprised to receive this award. I just enjoy the other members and like teaching adults and children about cattle and the beef industry,” said Henriques upon receiving the award.

Henriques and 31 other 2016 CowBelles throughout California will gather for a recognition luncheon during the California CattleWomen’s State Convention in Sparks, Nevada in early December. There are about 1,800 CattleWomen in California and the San Joaquin-Stanislaus CattleWomen’s Unit has 52 members and is 64 years old.
