The Modesto Junior College Department of Art presents “Re/Marks” featuring the works of Haleh Niazmand, a professor of art at the college. The show opens on Tuesday, Sept. 5 and runs through Thursday, Sept. 28 in the MJC Art Gallery on the East Campus, 435 College Ave., Modesto. The gallery is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday and admission is free.
A public reception for the artist will be held on Thursday, Sept. 14, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the MJC Art Gallery and Professor Niazmand will speak at 6 p.m.
The reception is also free of charge.
A conceptual artist, critic and curator, Niazmand has exhibited her art nationally and internationally in venues such as San Diego Museum of Art; Center for Contemporary Art in Santa Fe, NM; Cedar Rapids Museum of Art, IA; Des Moines Art Center, IA; University of Arizona Art Museum, Tucson; Museum of Contemporary Art, Bucharest and Museum of Contemporary Art in Santa Fe, Argentina to name a few. She has written numerous art reviews and curatorial as well as catalog essays, and has curated many art exhibitions as well.
Niazmand earned a Bachelor of Arts from University of South Dakota and a Master of Fine Arts from University of Arizona, Tucson, and has taught art at MJC since 2005.
