Free Science Presentations Focused On Timely Topics

Modesto Junior College’s weekly Science Colloquium spring semester series offers a lineup of one hour discussions on timely science topics held Wednesdays at 3:15 p.m. in the Science Community Center, Room 115, on West Campus, 2201 Blue Gum Ave., Modesto. The Colloquium series is free and open to the public. There is a $2 charge for campus parking without a permit.

Feb. 1 – “Life at the McMurdo Station, Antarctica” by Brian Greene, MJC librarian.

Feb. 8 – “Darwin Day: How Evolution Unifies the Biological Sciences” by Bobby Hutchison, MJC psychology professor.

Feb. 15 – “Forest-wide Stream Monitoring in the Central Sierra Nevada” by Meg Layhee, aquatic biologist for the Central Sierra Environmental Resource Center.

Feb. 22 – “How Clean is the Air We Breathe?” by Anthony Presto, outreach representative for the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District.

March 1 – “Earth’s 6th Extinction ... is Actually the 7th” by Richard Anderson, MJC biology professor emeritus.

March 8 – To Be Announced.

March 15 – “An Update on Climate Change” by Elizabeth McInnes, MJC biology professor.

March 22 – “What’s New with Homo naledi and the Rising Star Cave, South Africa?” by Debra Bolter, Ph.D., MJC anthropology professor.

March 29 – “Career Opportunities for Speech-Language Pathologist, Another High Demand Allied Health Profession” by Sarah E.J. Martin, M.S., CCC-SLP.

April 5 – “Success Stories from California’s Channel Islands” by Teri Curtis, MJC Biology Professor.

 

April 12 – Earth Day Film.
