The Sonora Bach Festival will present its Youth Concert on Sunday, Oct. 14 at 3 p.m., featuring instrumentalists and vocalists up through high school. Special guest artist is soprano, Stephanie St. Claire. The concert will be held at the historic Church of the 49ers in Columbia. A reception, in the church fellowship hall, will follow.

Tickets, $5 for adults and under 18 free, are available online at the festival website (sonorabach.org), The Mountain Bookstore in the Junction Shopping Center and at the door.

The second presentation of the Sonora Bach Festival, the Youth Concert, will feature 18 musicians from the Central Mother Lode chosen by competitive audition and recommendation by their private instructors. Local musicians Jim Riggs, Ron Brickman and Sandra Betti adjudicated the auditionees and made the selection. Performers were required to memorize their audition pieces. All auditionees received written comments from the judges; those selected to perform at the festival also received a $50 Incentive Scholarship award.

Those selected for the concert are Tatum Mayo, piano; Luka Holbert, piano; Sophie McBride, voice; Jade Coard, piano; Cheyenne Stephens, piano; Joshua Hsue, cello; Gunther Hsue, piano; Benjamin Billiet, piano; Lyndsie Asnzar, piano; Johathan Kristsapovich, voice; Hannah Husher, piano; Isabella Bouchoucha, piano; Tanner Richardson, piano; Sabrina Jensen, voice; Bethany Winters, piano; Sophie Hsue, violin; Jasmine Hwang, violin; Genevieve Florenz, voice; and Daniel Kook, piano.

“We had some wonderful young people audition this year. It should make for a beautiful and impressive concert,” said Sandra Betti, Youth Concert Coordinator and Sonora Bach Festival Board Member.

Accompanying the soloists will be local accompanists Diane Day and Joy Willow.

Also on the program is the guest artist, soprano Stephanie St. Claire. She is presently a student at Columbia College and studies privately with voice teacher, Joy Willow. As a Tuolumne county native, St. Claire attended Summerville High. As a participant of the Summerville High music program, she was a member of the first all-female Jazz@8. She has been active in the local culture scene from classical music to theatrical productions. Her theatre experience includes Sierra Repertory Theatre’s production of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Curtis Creek’s productions of Suessical and School House Rock Live, Connections Visual Performing Arts Academy’s productions of Honk and Fiddler on the Roof, and Summerville Union High School’s production of Grease. She also received second place in the 2016 Saint James Concert Series scholarship competition.

St. Claire, accompanied by Willow, will sing music by Haydn, Obradors, Caldera, Puccini, Strauss, and Gershwin.

The Sonora Bach Festival is a series of events held throughout the month of October. Future events in the festival include Oct. 21, the Local’s Concert and Oct.28, the Bach’s Brunch.
