Winter Sports Scrimmages Fill Weekend Schedule

The winter sports season features basketball, soccer and wrestling at Escalon High School, with action in all three scheduled to get started this month.

Boys basketball squads will host a scrimmage at Escalon on Saturday, Nov. 17 and the varsity boys will host Linden in the Foundation Game on Monday, Nov. 19 at 7:30 p.m.

Nate Bartelink takes over as head coach for the varsity squad this season, moving up from the JV level, with Brandon Hoover coming in to coach the JV boys and Dave Anderson returning for the freshmen.

Girls basketball teams are scheduled to head to Ripon for a scrimmage on Saturday, Nov. 17 and then the varsity girls play host to Linden in a 6 p.m. contest for the Foundation Game on Monday, Nov. 19. Joseph Dalpogetti (varsity) and Robbie Leal (JV) are back for another year coaching the girls.

JV and varsity wrestling boys and girls are scheduled to go to Oakdale for an afternoon scrimmage on Friday, Nov. 16. The novice JV boys are scheduled to return to Oakdale for a novice event on Saturday, Nov. 17 at 9 a.m. Head coach for Cougar wrestling is Derek Scott.

Soccer schedules have both the Escalon varsity boys and girls scrimmaging Linden this week, followed by a varsity boys appearance in the Gregori Tournament Friday and Saturday, Nov. 16 and 17. The JV and varsity boys and girls teams will then play on Monday, Nov. 19 with the boys hosting Valley High School of Sacramento at 3:30 p.m. and the girls traveling to Cesar Chavez in Stockton, with games scheduled for 4 p.m. and 5:45 p.m.

Back to coach the boys are varsity head coach Paul Silva and JV head coach Polo Rodriguez. There will be new coaches for the girls teams; the positions are getting final approval from the school board.
