Winter Sports Schedules Heating Up For Cougars

Basketball, soccer and wrestling are the winter sports for Escalon High School athletes, and preseason play is already underway.

Nate Bartelink returns as head coach for the varsity boys basketball program with Dave Anderson back as JV boys coach and Steve Largent returning for another season as the freshman boys coach. A couple of scrimmages have already been attended and the teams were scheduled to travel to Bret Harte High School for their first actual preseason game on Tuesday, Nov. 22. They were to host Amador High on Wednesday, Nov. 23 and the varsity will take part in the Foundation Game at Patterson on Monday, Nov. 28 at 7:30 p.m.

Trans-Valley League play doesn’t start until January; the basketball teams will be on the road to start the league campaign at Riverbank on Wednesday, Jan. 4.

Head coach Joseph Dalpogetti returns to lead the varsity girls basketball program with Sam Baez back to coach the JV girls.

They have also seen some scrimmage and tournament play; the varsity only will be in Patterson for the Foundation Game on Nov. 28 at 6 p.m.

The annual Escalon Tournament is on the schedule from Wednesday, Nov. 30 through Friday, Dec. 2, featuring both varsity and JCV competition. League play begins at home, hosting Riverbank on Jan. 3.

Paul Silva, varsity head coach, and Polo Rodriguez, JV head coach, are back to lead the boys soccer program this season. With limited preseason play, the teams were scheduled to travel to Calaveras High School for a preseason contest on Tuesday, Nov. 22 and will be back on the road for game at Sonora on Tuesday, Nov. 29. The league season starts in January; the soccer boys head to Riverbank for a Jan. 5 contest.

New coaches for the girls soccer program this season are Jeremey Titsworth for the varsity girls, Lindsay Plascencia for the JV girls. They had some mid-month scrimmages and were scheduled to host Calaveras High School on Tuesday, Nov. 22. They will host Sonora on Tuesday, Nov. 29 with a game time of 3:30 p.m.

Like the boys, the TVL season for the girls sees them opening up against Riverbank, hosting the Lady Bruins on Thursday, Jan. 5.

Wrestling will have Derek Scott returning as head coach for the boys and Seth Davis will serve as head coach for the girls.

The team was scheduled to attend Team Duals in Manteca on Tuesday, Nov. 22 and then will send the JV girls to the Bristow Brawl in Atwater on Dec. 3 while the varsity boys go to the Rod Gaines Tournament at Tokay High School the same day.

League action starts with a match at Hughson on Dec. 16.
