An opening round win for Escalon put them into the second round of the NorCal volleyball championships, but the road trip to Fresno on Nov. 8 turned out to be their final game of the season.

On Tuesday, Nov. 6 the varsity volleyball girls opened up their NorCal appearance by hosting Skyline of Oakland. Escalon was efficient in handling the visitors, 25-14, 25-12, 25-13.

Hannah Boyd paced the effort on the home court with 27 assists while Mandy Murphy and Melanie Smith had 10 kills apiece.

“Meadow Naraghi had six aces, Tess Cosby had 10 digs,” head coach Teresa Williamson noted.

Two days later, the girls boarded the bus for a trip south, traveling to Fresno for a game against Washington Union.

There, the tables were turned as the Lady Cougars fell in a 3-0 decision, shut out by the host team.

They were competitive but just couldn’t quite get past Washington Union, which had some powerful servers and didn’t allow Escalon to get on a roll.

Scores were 17-25, 19-25, 17-25.

“Hannah Boyd had 15 assists, Mandy Murphy had 10 kills,” Williamson said of leading performers on the night.

Smith and Boyd each had two blocks and on the service line, Naraghi notched four aces. Cosby turned in another solid effort with 14 digs in the contest.

“We had a great season. We finished 25-11 overall,” Williamson said. “These girls fought to the end.”
