Keeping up a hectic preseason pace, the varsity Lady Cougars entered this week with a 9-1 record in volleyball.

They went 5-1 in the recent Orestimba Tournament, taking second place out of 32 teams.

“The girls are playing amazing,” head coach Teresa Williamson shared.

Along with tournament play, there have been several matches as the girls work through the non-league schedule.

“We started off last Monday, playing Ripon Christian, the team that beat us in the tournament. It was a great match, with us winning 3-1,” Williamson said. “We then played Sonora, Orestimba, and Buhach Colony, winning all four matches, which gives us a current record of 9-1. We are so proud of these girls and the hard work and mental toughness they have displayed so far.”

Current stats for the team show the assists leaders as Rylie Lattig, 108 and Carsyn Hood, 44. Team leaders in kills are Amanda Murphy, 57; Emily Vickers 54; Bella Cormack 33. Aces: Emily Vickers 12; Bella Cormack 12; Amanda Murphy 10; Digs: Grace Ferreira 64; Emily Vickers 45; Rylie Lattig 37; Amanda Murphy 30; Blocks: Bella Cormack 11; Mallory Berhorst and Valeria Gonzalez both with seven.

JV and freshmen are also busy with their preseason schedule; look for an update on their progress in the Sept. 8 issue.
