Varsity Track, Field Splits With Hilmar, MC

As a team the Escalon track and field athletes battled against both Hilmar and Modesto Christian on Wednesday April 3 in Hilmar. The boys and girls’ teams beat Modesto Christian, boys 100-21, girls 90-31, but lost to Hilmar; boys 48-88 and girls 45-91. Athletes Zach Pickett (400m), Alex Jimenez (110mh), Nathan Luis (Shot Put), Briana Briones-Chavarria (800m, 1600m) and Kalynn Cavanaugh (High Jump) had strong performances and finished first in their events.

On Saturday, April 6 the EHS Track and Field team competed in the Pacific Grove Rotary Invitational in Pacific Grove. The meet offers four divisions, varsity boys and girls and frosh-soph boys and girls. The Cougars had athletes compete in all divisions.

“With the weather near perfect and competing less than a mile from the beach, this meet is definitely a team favorite,” said head coach Carrie Nash.

Top five finishers in each event, in each division earned medals. The 35 medals earned, and 29 personal records highlighted the event for the Cougars. Both varsity boy’s 4x100m and 4x400m teams walked away with 1st place medals. Senior Zach Pickett was the only individual first place finisher. He was first in the 400m, running a personal best of 50.51.
