Three runs were scored in each game and each went on the books as a win for Escalon's varsity softball girls.

The girls were home to host Hughson on Wednesday, April 16 and took a 2-1 win. Thursday, they were 3-0 winners on the road at Riverbank.

"We scored two in the fourth inning and they got one in the seventh," coach Dianne Teixeira said of the game at home on Wednesday.

Casey Schmidig singled, Jordon Costa singled and Kattie Schmidig singled to drive in a run to get the host Lady Cougars on the board. Caitlin Brooks then hit a hard shot to third and when the ball was bobbled, Costa took advantage and scored the second run of the game.

Starting pitcher Brooks kept the Huskies under control for much of the contest, finally running into trouble in the top of the seventh.

Hughson singled, had a sacrifice, then singled to drive in a runner. That runner made it to second and was stranded there.

"Caitlin had a strikeout and then a grounder back to her that she threw to first for the final out," Teixeira said.

Brooks struck out 10 and waked none in the win. Hughson had four hits and one error, with Escalon getting five hits and no errors.

Costa had two hits, Audree Mendez and each of the Schmidig sisters had one.

"It was a good game and a shout out to Jordon," noted Teixeira. "She had two hits and when we had two runners on one time they intentionally walked her.

"She has picked it up a lot, worked so hard and improved."
