Traditional Recreational Youth Soccer League Format Makes Return

Oakdale Youth Soccer League officials have announced the highly anticipated return of the popular Youth Recreational League. OYSL is providing the recreational soccer program for Oakdale, Riverbank, Escalon, Waterford and the surrounding areas. All children ages 4 and up are encouraged to participate.

"Last year the league tried an academy format instead of the traditional recreation program. However, the feedback from our parents, coaches and community was they wanted the recreational program back," said newly elected 2012 League President Jo Harris. "So we have eliminated the academy and brought back the fun. We will have uniformed teams, referees and organized games each weekend this fall. We will also offer competitive programs for those who want to grow to a higher level of play."

Also being offered by the league is a Referee Certification class for those interested in becoming a paid referee. The class will be held over three sessions starting on Aug. 10, and will conclude with a certification test on Aug. 15.

For those who are looking for a fun soccer camp before school starts, OYSL is offering one from Monday, July 30 through Friday, Aug. 3, a British Soccer Camp with instructors from Challenger Sports. This is a rare opportunity to receive high-level soccer coaching from a team of international experts.

Registration for the Fall Recreation Program, Referee Course and the British Soccer Camp is available on line at oakdalesoccer.org. Please get your registration in as soon as possible to insure enrollment.

"Oakdale Youth Soccer prides itself in its commitment to the game and the community. Our beliefs as an association are that of good sportsmanship among players and coaches, that the kids have fun and learn the game," Harris added. "We will do our best to provide a safe and happy environment for the children of Oakdale to truly love the game of soccer."
