Track, Field Athletes See Action For Escalon

A practice meet, some relays and a frosh-soph invite have gotten the season started for Escalon track and field athletes. Here is a look at some of the top performances of the past couple of weeks.

 

March 2 - Oakdale Practice Meet

“This was our annual preseason meet. It was simply a practice meet where the athletes could compete at a great facility and get some times and marks to start off the season,” said head coach Carrie Nash. “It was a non-scoring meet, good for launching the season.”

 

March 16 - TVL Relays at Hughson High School

Escalon primarily took varsity athletes to this meet since the Calaveras Frosh-Soph meet was scheduled for Friday of the same week.

On the boys side, the Sprint Medley Relay was second and consisted of Matthew Baptista, Caden Gonsalves, Logan Anderson and Owen Nash.

“They had an amazing finish with Nash clipping the third place runner a few meters before the finish. This team of boys also finished third in the 4x100m,” Nash explained. “In the throwers relay, Preston Ball, Pietro Orlando, Casey Vassallo, and Stephen Percey ran an impressive time of 50.19 beating the second place team by nearly three seconds.”

In the shot put, senior Preston Ball was second with a throw of 39'2.5" and Casey Vassallo was fourth with a throw of 36'3". In the discus Ball threw 111'4 for first place, Percey threw 101'9 for second place and Victor Romero threw 96'7" for fifth place. In the high jump Owen Nash was first with a jump of 5'10".

On the girls side, Sammy Lang was third in the long jump with a jump of 15'and Cali Granis was second with a jump of 14'8". In the shot put Julia Warsing was fourth with a PR throw of 29'6".

“Our co-ed 4x200 team, Logan Anderson, Owen Nash, Cali Granis and Sammy Lang ran strong for a second place finish,” added the coach.

 

March 18 - Calaveras Frosh/Soph Meet, Calaveras High School

Girls - 100m first place Cali Granis 13.16, second Alyssa Ball 13.3, and third Sammy Lang 13.65. 100HH - Lang was third, 20.39, in the 200, Ball was third in 30.19 and Lauren Rodriguez was eighth in 31.72. Chloe Farley took first in the discus throwing a PR of 77'03. In the high jump Alondra Gonzales was fourth clearing 4'. In the long jump Lang was second 14'06", Granis fourth 14'06", and Lillian Brasil was fifth, 13'09".

Boys - Marcos Grajeda was fifth in the 400 running 1:04.78; Jake Sawyer was third in the 800, 2:56.57; Jose Calderon was fourth in the 3200m, 12:14.65 and eighth in the 1600, 5:43.51.
