On the court, Escalon tennis players fell to Riverbank but got a forfeit win over Millennium.

They were at Riverbank for the April 12 match and lost by a 3-6 final.

Earning wins for Escalon were girls singles players Isabella Nalbandian, number one singles, taking a 6-1, 7-4 (6-6) win and Rylie Lattig, at number two, winning 6-1, 6-4. In girls number two doubles, the team of Laura Thompson and Kali Castellano also prevailed, winning in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.

Losses came in boys singles, boys doubles, mixed doubles and in the number one girls doubles; all matches were in straight sets.

“Millennium forfeited the match against us on Thursday,” noted head coach Julianne Eavenson of the 9-0 win on April 14.

The team used the afternoon for a practice session as they prepare for more league matches and tournament play.

In her first year with the team, Eavenson said she is seeing players do some good things on the court.

“Isabella Nalbandian, our number one girls singles player, has played very well this season, only losing to the Hughson number one. She gives a lot of effort and is very consistent,” the coach said. “Landon Underwood, he is a freshman this year playing on varsity. He had never played before this season and has improved a lot and has worked his way up to our number one doubles spot.”

Escalon is next scheduled to host Ripon, the match set for Tuesday, April 26 and it will be Senior Day for the Cougars. Then they travel to Stockton for the Trans-Valley League Tournament on Friday and Saturday, April 29 and 30.
