Blazers Playing In World Series

Members of the Tri-Valley Blazers baseball team are in San Diego this week, taking part in the USABF World Series for the 18 and Under division.

Players from Escalon, Riverbank, Oakdale, Ripon and the surrounding area make up the team, which is guaranteed at least seven games in the competition. Action was slated to kick off with Friday, Aug. 6 games and the Blazers will continue their play in San Diego this week. There are more than 30 teams battling it out for the championship. Other Northern California teams in the running include the Ripon Angels, Modesto Pirates, Bay Area A's, Martinez Cubs and the River City Wolverines. Among the Escalon players for the Blazers are Peter Krumeich, Brian Lynn, Jesse Miguel and K.J. Vandagriff.

Call Out For Softball Players

Coast to Coast Softball is recruiting California area softball players, ages 16 to 19, to represent the USA in international competition in Australia and Hawaii. Outstanding amateurs, selected from as many as 25 states nationwide, will compete against international all-star teams during the 2004-05 winter, and summer school breaks.

Open tryouts are planned in Stockton on Thursday, Sept. 2 at 5 p.m. at the United Sports Complex, home of the California Sunbirds.

Each Coast to Coast tour lasts seven to 14 days and the teams are managed by top college coaches. For more information or to register for a tryout, call 740-373-2068.

Exercise, Water Safety Classes

The YMCA of Stanislaus County is offering a wide variety of group exercise classes for participants ages 12 and over. All classes are at the YMCA, 2700 McHenry Ave., Modesto.

Classes are designed to fit a variety of schedules and are held for all levels of exercisers. Pilates, Cardio Kick, BodyPUMP and Yoga are among the classes, as well as a selection of other classes for the fitness-minded senior citizen. For more information, call 578-9622, extension 18.

Also being offered is an aquatics safety course, designed for parents or other caregivers, that teaches basic water safety skills and drowning prevention. It also fulfills the state required water safety portion of Child Care licensing. The two-hour course is $35 and is set up by appointment. Game Bird Hunts Scheduled

Several dove hunt and game bird opportunities have been developed by the Department of Fish and Game in cooperation with the Department of Water Resources (DWR), U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (USBR), Kern Water Bank Authority (KWBA), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the Southern Tulare County Sportsman Association (STCSA).

To provide more hunters with the opportunity to participate in hunts, hunters will be selected for only one hunt area and hunt period.
