On the road at Ripon on Wednesday, Escalon's varsity Lady Cougars came away with an 8-3 win and kept the trend going with a 12-2 victory at home on Friday.

Casey Schmidig got the start against Ripon and kept the game under control, striking out 10 and scattering seven hits. She issued four walks.

Escalon put three runs on the board in the fourth, two in the sixth and three in the seventh, while the host Indians countered with one in the third, two in the seventh.

In the fourth inning, Casey Schmidig started it off with a single, Jordon Costa singled and Kattie Schmidig was hit by a pitch. Caitlin Brooks followed with an RBI single, scoring Casey Schmidig and Hillary Jones knocked in a pair of runs with a double.

After Ripon scored one in the third to make it 3-1, the Lady Cougars got two more in the sixth to make it 5-1.

"We got a solo homer over the fence from Jordon Costa," said coach Dianne Teixeira.

Kattie Schmidig singled in the frame, Caitlin Brooks singled and Hillary Jones doubled to drive in another run. Adding some insurance in the seventh, Lounette Jackson got in on the action with an RBI single.

Ripon scored two in the seventh but couldn't get any closer, and the varsity girls had the win.

Escalon had eight runs on 16 hits with two errors while host Ripon had three runs on seven hits and no errors.

"Their pitchers are decent," Teixeira said of the Indians. "But we've been working on form at the plate, it's made a difference."
