Scoring a touchdown in the first quarter and another in the fourth, it was a 14-0 win on Friday night for Escalon’s JV football team. They traveled to nearby Oakdale for the final preseason game, buoyed by a huge crowd turning out to support them.

In the first quarter, Ben Gonzalez scored on a two-yard rushing touchdown with Isaac Patino adding the point after for a 7-0 lead.

Neither team got into the end zone in the second or third quarters, but Escalon cashed in with one more score in the final quarter. It was Gonzalez again, this time on a seven-yard rush, and Patino with the point after to make it 14-0.

“We put together a complete performance on both sides of the ball,” said head coach Brant Rose. “Our offense was efficient with no turnovers and sustained drives. Defensively we put together a dominating performance forcing four turnovers.”

Those included two interceptions, one each by Gonzalez and Daniel Marrufo, and two forced fumbles, one each by Kamari Castro and Rylan Koops.

“Our defensive front was very disruptive at the line of scrimmage the entire game,” Rose said. “That was a solid Oakdale team and that was a big win for us. This game showed that when our team plays to our best potential and limits mistakes, we are a tough team to beat.”

The squad will have an opportunity to rest a bit now, with a bye week, but will stay busy with practice as they prepare for the Trans-Valley League opener at Hughson on Friday, Sept. 29.
