Preseason Matches Fill Up Escalon Sports Slate

After a little more than a week of practice - the bulk of it just conditioning - many Escalon High School fall sports teams are already looking toward getting on their respective fields for their first contests.

The scrimmages and preseason matches will see plenty of action this coming week, starting with a volleyball scrimmage day on Saturday, Aug. 20 at Beyer High in Modesto, with the varsity starting at 9 a.m., JV at 10:55 a.m. and freshmen at 12:35 p.m.

Other August action will include Tuesday, Aug. 30 on the road at Central Catholic for matches at 4 p.m. (frosh), 5 p.m. (JV) and 6:30 p.m., (varsity) and a home meet hosting Linden on Wednesday, Aug. 31 with matches at 4:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Trans-Valley League play for volleyball does not begin until September, Wednesday, Sept. 21 at home hosting Riverbank.

Monday, Aug. 22 will see Waterford coming to Escalon for a boys soccer scrimmage at 4 p.m. and the boys also host Sierra in a non-league match on Friday, Aug. 26 at 4 p.m.

They close out August with back-to-back matches, Aug. 30 hosting Amador and Aug. 31 traveling to Jackson to face Argonaut. League play starts at home against Riverbank on Sept. 15.

Cross country runners have a scrimmage - time and place to be announced - on Monday, Aug. 22 and are also planning to attend the Lodi Invitational at Lodi Lake on Wednesday, Aug. 31. The Trans-Valley League Meet 1 will be at Legion Park in Modesto on Wednesday, Sept. 7 at 3:30 p.m.

Lady Cougar golfers will scrimmage against Oakdale at the Oakdale Golf and Country Club on Tuesday, Aug. 23 and take on Hughson at the Escalon course on Wednesday, Aug. 24. Orestimba will host the Escalon girls at Diablo Grande golf course on Monday, Aug. 29 and the girls jump into TVL play on Thursday, Sept. 1, hosting Riverbank at the Escalon course at 3:30 p.m.

For the football squads, Friday, Aug. 26 will see the players hitting the gridiron, with a scrimmage against Calaveras in Escalon.

The freshmen, JV and varsity squads all go at 6 p.m. League play in football starts for the freshmen at home against Patterson on Thursday, Sept. 15 and the JV and varsity travel to Patterson on Friday, Sept. 16. Escalon's varsity enters the season as defending Trans-Valley League, Sac-Joaquin Section and State Division III champions.
