Popular Destruction Derby Returns To Fairgrounds Returns To Fairgrounds
Destruction Derby

The Turlock Lions Club is bringing its popular Destruction Derby back to this year’s Stanislaus County Fair – but with a twist.

The fair will be the go-to place for this summer’s metal-on-metal destruction, which will be held Monday, July 16 and Tuesday, July 17 at 6:30 p.m. in the FoodMaxx Arena. Also, Derby II on July 17 will have direct involvement from Stanislaus County’s younger members of the community. The Lions Club has asked high school students from their respective high schools to build their own vehicles and have their administrators drive the cars during the event.

“We want the younger generation involved with the Derby in order to keep our traditions going for the next few years,” said Buster Lucas, Turlock Lions Club’s Head of the Derby. “Putting together such a competition will generate interest from the younger demographic for future events.”

There are seven high schools that will be competing in Derby II, four are from Modesto and three are from Turlock.

“The Destruction Derby events are a must at the fair,” said Adrenna Alkhas, spokesperson for the Stanislaus County Fair. “They truly rally up the crowd and get everyone going. With the high school heat addition, it will bring a nostalgic high school rivalry back.”
