Winter Sports Season Under Way For Cougars

The Foundation games at Central Catholic for varsity boys and girls basketball on Monday, Dec. 2 officially kicked off the winter sports season for Escalon High School teams.

Wrestling will start this weekend and the teams at all levels have coaches returning from last season, with Derek Scott the head coach for wrestling, Martin Louro (varsity), Nate Bartelink (JV) and David Anderson (freshman) back for boys basketball. Returning for girls basketball are Joe Dalpogetti (varsity), Andrew Beam (JV) and Kristie Cathcart (freshman).

Boys basketball action in the next week includes freshmen traveling to the Ceres Tournament Dec. 4 through 6, JV and varsity at Bret Harte today (Dec. 4) and a home game for all levels hosting Calaveras on Tuesday, Dec. 10. Freshmen begin at 4:30 p.m., JV at 6 p.m. and varsity at 7:30 p.m.

Girls are busy with the Lions Club Tournament this week (varsity and JV) with the JV and varsity also traveling to Linden for a Tuesday, Dec. 10 contest, the JV playing at 6 p.m. and varsity at 7:30 p.m.

First action for the freshman girls will be in the East Union tournament on Dec. 12.

Wrestling will start with a trip to the Hughson JV/Novice tournament or the Bulldog Duals in Turlock on Saturday, Dec 7 for the JV team and the varsity going to the McNair Tournament in Stockton on Saturday at 9 a.m.
