A busy Saturday of volleyball saw the Escalon varsity Lady Cougars travel to Golden Valley High School on Aug. 20. They took part in a scrimmage and faced off with three different teams.

“We played Golden Valley, Beyer and Oakdale,” head coach Teresa Williamson said of facing some larger schools.

Overall, she noted, the team played some solid volleyball, as they get ready for non-league action and, later on, Trans-Valley League play.

“A scrimmage is a good opportunity to see what you have to work with,” she explained. “Megan (assistant coach) and I are very excited to watch these girls grow. They are all great athletes and extremely eager to get better.”

This week, the varsity, JV and freshmen are all slated to be in action, as they will host Pitman in a scrimmage format on Thursday, Aug. 25. The freshmen and JV will start the games at 4:30 p.m., followed by the varsity at 5:30 p.m.

They turn right around and get back on the court on Friday, Aug. 26, welcoming Enochs to town. This will be a non-league game, with the frosh girls kicking off the trio of contests at 4 p.m., JV at 5 p.m. and varsity at 6 p.m.

On Monday, Aug. 29 the varsity girls will play in the Foundation game, traveling to Calaveras High School for the 7 p.m. contest.
