Varsity Soccer Teams Get Wins

Finally breaking through with a much-needed victory, the Escalon varsity Lady Cougars topped Calaveras in non-league play this past week.

The girls held on for a 1-0 victory. Kyleigh Rafferty had the goal and Mya Beary notched the assist. Goalie Leticia Gutierrez had five saves.

“Our defense played extremely well,” said head coach Jamie Peoples. “I changed the line up a bit.”

The girls are now on break, closing out the preseason campaign with the win.

Their next game action will be in Trans-Valley League play, when they head to Riverbank to take on the Lady Bruins in the TVL opener on Wednesday, Jan. 4 at 3:30 p.m.

Escalon’s JV girls did not fare as well against visiting Calaveras in the Dec. 20 contest. They took a 7-1 loss, with the lone Escalon goal coming off the foot of Hailie Webster.

On the boys side, the varsity squad went on the road to play at Calaveras on Tuesday, Dec. 20 and came away with a one-goal victory, 3-2, to improve to 7-0-1 for their preseason campaign. There was no score in the first half, with the teams knotted at 0-0.  The Cougars put three goals in the net in the second half, Calaveras managed to get two in, with the Escalon varsity holding on for the win,.

 

They open up Trans-Valley League play with a game against Riverbank, hosting the Bruins on Wednesday, Jan. 4.
