Opening up Trans-Valley League play on the home field Thursday, the Escalon varsity Lady Cougars used a strong second half to earn a win.

They hosted Riverbank in the March 17 contest and walked off with a 4-1 decision.

The Escalon team managed just one goal in the first half, but they kept Riverbank off the scoreboard. A flurry of goals midway through the second half pushed Escalon to a 4-0 advantage, which they never relinquished. Riverbank got on the board with one goal to avoid the shutout.

Lady Cougar goals came from Alondra Martinez, who had a hat trick with three goals and she added one assist; with Dalsin Alves netting the other goal. Skilar Cook had an assist. Sarah Leal had two saves in goal for the host team.

On the JV field, Riverbank found the net early and often, handing the host JV Lady Cougars a 6-2 setback in the league game.

Action this week will see the soccer girls on the road. They were scheduled to play at Ripon on Tuesday, after The Times went to press and will travel to Mountain House for a Thursday, March 24 game.
