Saturday Action Sees Outlaws Split Playoff Games
football1

With the regular season complete, the Escalon Outlaws youth football program had representatives in the playoffs at both the varsity and JV levels. Here is a recap of this past Saturday’s action.

Varsity

The Escalon Outlaws were on the road in Calaveras to meet the Hughson Huskies in a neutral field play-off match up. A win would mean extending the season at least one more week.

Escalon would benefit from an early Hughson miscue. Alfonso Gonzalez would scoop up the loose ball and race 30 yards to the Huskies 12-yard line before being tackled. It would take three plays before Christian Tinoco would carry the ball nine yards around the right end for the touchdown. The point after touchdown kick was missed, but Escalon would hold an early 6-0 lead.

Escalon would score again after a Hughson turnover on downs. The scoring drive would include a crucial pass completion from Josh Miller to Austin Roberts. The drive would end with a 2-yard plunge by EJ Lewis. The point after touchdown kick would be converted by JP Lial to give the Outlaws a 14-0 lead.

That would be the end of the Outlaws’ offensive threats. The Huskies would score 20 unanswered points to end the Escalon varsity season. The Outlaws would fall with a final score of 20-14.

Junior Varsity

The Jr. Varsity Outlaws also faced the Hughson Huskies in their first round play-off match up. The JV Outlaws would enjoy a 40-14 victory.

Donovan Rosevink would tally two touchdowns to lead the Escalon offense. Scores would be added by Caleb Cavanaugh, Owen Nash, and Cameron Ruiz. Jacob Martin would convert all five of the point after touchdown kicks. Rosevink would complete passes to Ayden Wilson and Seth Britton to set up eventual scores.

The defensive efforts were led by Jimmy Auble, Ryan Lewis, and Ruben Moreno.

The JV Outlaws will move on to play the Ripon Chiefs at Linden High School. The winner of that game will be set for the MVFL Championship Game.
