JV, Varsity Soccer Girls Top Mustangs

Both of Escalon’s girls soccer teams defeated the Mountain House Mustangs when they came to town to visit on Tuesday, April 26. For the JV girls, it was their only game of the week, while the varsity headed to Modesto Christian on Thursday, April 28 and took a loss there to split their TVL contests this week.

Against Mountain House, the varsity earned an 8-1 victory, with goals from multiple players.

Morgan Dominguez had a goal and two assists, Taylor Dominguez also had a goal and two assists. Alyssa Stocks notched a goal, Veronica Grajeda had an assist. Gillian Goodman put in a goal for the varsity squad, while Skilar Cook had an assist. Vanessa Kualapai scored a pair of goals and had an assist, Angelica Fernandez and Aylin Rodriguez each had a goal with Madison Kindberg getting an assist.

Sarah Leal had two saves in goal, Shelby McCune notched one.

“Thursday at Modesto Christian we lost 6-1,” said head coach Jamie Peoples. “Sarah had six saves and Vanessa scored our goal.”

Tuesday, May 3 was slated to be celebrated as Senior Night for the varsity Lady Cougars, their final home game of the season. Thursday, they head to Hilmar for the TVL season finale. Seniors include Haleigh Renfro, Skilar Cook, Vanessa Kualapai, Kaitlyn Jaime, Veronica Grajeda, Sarah Leal and Taylor Dominguez.

 

Junior Varsity

Getting on the field for one game during the week, the young Lady Cougars doubled up visiting Mountain House, 4-2.

“Daisy Camacho scored our first goal, Kaitlyn Castro scored another with an assist from Sarah McPherrin,” said coach Jen Schmidt. “Then Kyleigh Rafferty finished one into the back of the net with an assist from Katie Erazo and our final goal was scored by Alexa Gomez.”

Special recognition also went to Maritsa Torres, playing a strong game at the left forward position for the JV squad.
